Today I’m talking about one of my favourite musicians, Dodie Clark.
Dodie’s a YouTuber who, at present, has over 1,000,000 subscribers. She uploads original songs and covers and currently has released 2 EPs: ‘You’, and ‘Intertwined’. In this post I’ll go over some of my favourite Dodie songs.
This song is about never feeling good enough, and just being average; feeling plain and not special. The lyrics are beautifully written and echo the self-deprecating thoughts everyone experiences sometimes. It helps us understand that everyone has those moments when we feel like we wouldn’t stand out in a sea of faces.
- Sick Of Losing Soulmates
This song is about one of Dodie’s personal experiences. She has a video about the song and her interpretation which you can watch here. I think the lyrics to this song are so incredibly beautiful, and can apply to lots of people’s situations with both friends and partners. I strongly suggest you give it a listen.
- The Flat’s a mess
This song is a duet with Dodie and her former housemate Evan in what they called ‘The Dovan Flat’. It was uploaded a little bit before they stopped living together and shows the things they both do which drive each other crazy. Both the lyrics and video are amazingly comical and never fail to put a smile on my face.
- Life Lesson
This song is only around 30 seconds long, but I still love it. It’s about what your future self will think of you in years to come, and whether you’ll live with no regrets. It’s a great reminder to always live life to the fullest.
This song is (surprise!) an instrumental, meaning there are no lyrics. It’s still a brilliant song which was composed by Dodie. I love this song so much and find it so uplifting that it’s actually my ringtone at the minute.
- Secret For The Mad
I love this song so much. During this song, Dodie only plays one note throughout and I think that really helps in encouraging the listener to focus on her lyrics. The lyrics are extremely comforting and help remind us that everything will get better soon, and that we’re not alone no matter what we’re going through.
- Burned Out
Right now, this is Dodie’s most recent original song. I fell in love with it as soon as I listened to it and (I’m not going to lie) played it 5 times in a row. The lyrics and melody were both so moving that I cried. Dodie hasn’t posted an explanation as to what the song is about, but many fans believe it’s centered around the pressure she feels due to her increasing popularity and fame. Either way, it’s a beautiful song and I highly recommend listening to it.
